The idea of this post came to me today when I was having lunch with my friends. The subject of our conversation today was pretty light: online courses, business books and learning paths. So I began to think about these and imagining a connection between Sun Signs and business books. What if each Sun Sign should read only one Business Book? What would that be? As I am an avid, hungry reader, this is already my favorite post.
Search your Sun Sign (Aries, Taurus, Gemini,Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces) below and you will find the best business book for you. I have searched through my favorite business books, career guides and I selected the finest of all for your Sun Sign. I highly recommend all the books below as they can create a structured mindset when it comes to motivation and business
For Aries, I recommend the well known book “The First 90 Days” by Michael Watkins. Aries is the one that likes to start things over and over again. He is the best at leading something new and having a team to build the foundation of any new idea, any new business. He is not the one with ideas, but he is definitely the best one to take with you if you want to start something new. Aries knows what actions to take and who to talk to in these first few days of a battle. The books below fits him as it is very practical and down to earth and this can direct Aries on a very good path.
“The First 90 Days” is a book about new managers or managers in a new role. It is highly suggested if you just started on a new position in your firm or just landed a leadership position in another company. If you want to have an idea about the book, I think this first few words in the book are just what you need “The President of the United States gets 100 days to prove himself; you get 90. The actions you take during your first three months in a new job will largely determine whether you succeed or fail.” Michael Watkins points towards the value of first impression in an organisation and teaches a few tricks to make a good one. The book also teaches job transition and how important it is to understand the new culture as well as the new team that you are about to lead. And one thing that Aries needs a lot as he requires long term commitment is a way to sustain success and show it to your team. You can buy this Book by clicking on the image, on Amazon.
For Taurus, I suggest the best-seller book “Winning” by Jack Welch. Taurus is the stable, very determined and hard-working. Taurus are extremely good managers as they create this safe and secure environment where all the members of the team feel valued and appreciated. They are also ambitions, but they are prone to being lazy. That is why the book I choose is one that can assure success for every manager and gives the motivation to WIN. Also, Taurus are known to win in different arguments as they have a way to say the right things as the right time. I love the saying that Taurus is the one that reads their monthly bank statements for fun on cold winter nights before they go to sleep.
“Winning” by Jack Welch is a book that shares with us the right ideologies for management in any type of culture and organization. It is a book that teaches you how to create a culture of winning that can survive even when the leader is gone. Taurus will love to create this kind of stability and permanence of winning. Welch lays out rules of leadership that he claims always work and some of them stick to my mind: “Make the unpopular decisions.”, “Probe and push”, “Make sure your questions are answered with action” and “Celebrate”. Taurus will be just the person to put these into action any time and he will be there to celebrate himself, the team and the result. Don’t forget that Taurus is pragmatic and he will always aim for the harvest. You can buy this Book by clicking on the image, on Amazon.
For Gemini, I propose the crazy book “Blink” by Malcolm Gladwell. I need to say I am fond of Malcolm Gladwell and his amazing wit and love for social and words! And I also love Gemini, my sister Air Sign. Gemini is an Air Sign and it ruled by Mercury! Mercury is bright when it is visible from Earth and it is quick, very quick. Gemini is very witty and is an artist of communication and has the power of thinking. Gemini is a friendly leader, gathers everybody around him and makes people in the team brainstorm and think. He is process oriented as he is able to see connections between certain decisions, but his most important asset is the way he understands thinking patterns. Gemini is also able to share stories and turn those stories into actionable tasks.
“Blink” by Malcolm Gladwell tells different delightful stories about what we call intuition and the process of thinking. Malcolm makes a great point about the first impression and how we all can take a small portion of a problem and after that extrapolate it in our mind. We always assumed that decisions are made after long, working hours and a lot of lists with pros and cons, but the reality is we need a few seconds to make a point and to understand something. And here is why the this book is shoe fit to the magical Gemini. And the last idea about this crazy book in a critical one: Malcolm tries to show and succeeds in convincing all his readers that first impressions and snap judgement can be educated and controlled. I had a very hard time believing this too, but the book plays with so many pieces of information that is dazzling and it is the perfect fit for my Gemini friends. For Cancer, the book I chose was “Daring Greatly” by Brene Brown. This is a book I read recently and I loved it. As most of you know, I have a Cancer Ascendant and this book was just what I needed for my soul. Cancer is the caring sign, the emotional, soft, gracious and profound. Very loyal to his team and to his company, Cancer is the leader we all want and we all need. I believe, as I wrote in a post, Cancer is the hero we are looking for. You can read this post here.
“Daring Greatly” by Brene Brown is a book about vulnerability and how we can embrace it in our work, with our families and with our children. The book teaches us it is essential to expose oneself to feelings in order to break down the walls of perfectionism. It is crucial to stop the act of disengagement and to show that we care every step of the way. As long as we care and we show up, we understand, we feel, we are stronger leaders and we can create lasting mind sets and a stable, normal environment. A perfect fit for any Cancer leader that needs to know that his way is the long term way. You can buy this Book by clicking on the image, on Amazon.
For you dear Leo, I suggest the book “Good to Great” by Jim Collins. You are the shinning star of the zodiac, so you deserve something great. Leo make the best leaders as they have all the qualities necessary to impress, lead, think strategies, sell and be as efficient as possible. Leo is the one going from good to great and is able to make things happen in any kind of organisation. He will be the one with the most powerful speech and with the most notable argument.
“Good To Great” by Jim Collins is what we can call the perfect book and the one that deserves the most of your time. As does a Leo. The book shows how we can develop a business from the foundation to the top. “Good to Great” takes a huge task to create the task in assessing what makes a company great and how this greatness can be achieved. Music to a Leos ears. The objective of this book is hard to achieve, but it is as close as you can be to a model of success. I love this book as it did come down to 3 simple things to achieve greatness: Disciplined People, Disciplined Thought and Disciplined Action. For Virgo, I recommend the well crafted “The Power Of Habit” by Charles Duhigg. Virgo people are avid workers with a very stable and committed heart. They usually love what the do and they have the extraordinary power do never give up, always in search of the most efficient way of doing things. They are very rational and they love detail work. I think a Virgo invented the word habit and having a very strict set of rules to follow.
“The Power Of Habit” by Charles Duhigg is a book a read recently as I got it as a recommendation myself. I looked at it and read some reviews and I thought to myself, this is a Virgo Book! The books says that we are all habitual people and our lives are run by mini rituals that we do day in day out. We don’t notice them, they are just of us and it seems that they are also a very important in our development as healthy, happy individuals. Charles Duhigg says that these routines are all triggered by a cue and we always have a reward. If you can identify the trigger, you will end up changing an unhealthy routine. Easy to say, difficult to implement. Virgo will be very happy with this book as it fits her entirely. You can buy this Book by clicking on the image, on Amazon.
For you Libra, I think the book: “The Five Dysfunctions of a Team” by Patrick Lencioni is the perfect fit. Libra is the sign of balance and of team work. They are diplomats, make excellent leaders, make good presidents and have a way of making the people want to work for them. For Libra, truth and justice always prevail in decision-making. Partnership is ideal for this social character that loves a good debate! As they like to work surrounded by people, they have an extra eye of moving people around in an organisation until they find their best job match. That makes them excellent Human Resources people.
“The Five Dysfunctions of a Team” by Patrick Lencioni is a very good book that talks about teams, the effort it takes to bring teams together and how to do it. Lencioni tells a story about a technology company that struggles to grow and about a new CEO that makes thinks happen. The new CEO understands the problem of the executive team that is not working together as a team and transforms it into a powerful one. How is the new CEO able to do that? He loves to put pressure and loves to get results. Scorpio is very good at transformation and he can change things around him as he pleases. For you Capricorn, I propose the mythical book “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen R. Covey. Capricorn is the real business man or woman you are looking for at any of you job opening. He is wise, clean, methodical, ready to reach any type of goal. Capricorns will look after his team, encourages it when needed and makes unpopular decisions if it is needed. He is kind of a workaholic and loves life at the office. He is very determined and will be able to work until every little detail of his work is perfect.
The book I chose has sold over 20 million copies and been printed in 38 different languages, so it is a masterpiece. “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” is the first book I read about self-improvement and it marked my foundation. The book explains that in order to make a change in your life and the way you are living it at the moment, you need to transform the way you see the world. You need to try to step back and understand the world as it really is. You need to have reality checks once in a while to be able to make important changes. For Aquarius, that is myself, I would choose the book “Re-engineering the Corporation” by James A. Champy and Michael M. Hammer. Aquarius is the unconventional, the little crazy, the adaptable, the smart guy in the office. He has charisma, loves to talk with a lot of people, can shift himself around if needed and can think outside of the box. These people are extremely hard working, always having a lot of ideas to share, inlove with their work and ready to pursue their dream with tenacity. Aquarius loves a challenge, hates to get bored and is able to focus on one single task for a very long time. Loves the team and I think he is the future leader of the century.
“Re-engineering the Corporation” is a book about rethinking, redesigning the processes of a business in order to gain concrete results in terms of performance, quality and cost. A revolutionary book at the time it was written, the book disregarded all assumptions and traditions and developed a new process oriented kind of business.
